Whac-a-Critter Realtec Controller

Mallet Legend Whac-a-Critter controller

This controller should be rarer than the Outback Joey’s one. Or, maybe, due to it’s nature, it usually goes unnoticed.
Surely in the top ten of Genesis’rarities.

  1. I have one of these, but the box and the cart that comes with it are different from what I have. The box calls mine Smash Controller and doesn’t mention anything having to do with this game. The pics of the game on the back of the box do look like Whac-A-Critter though.

  2. You know, I saw one of those controllers back in the day on clearance at Kay-Bee Toys, but I didn’t buy it because the game looked kind of lame. It was after the heyday of Sega Genesis, too, and a low price too boot.

    I’m kicking myself now.

  3. The Smash Controller is probably the released US version, that’s how its referred to on the back of the US game box. I’d guess from the Engrish and the “Mallet Legend” name that this one is either a Taiwanese version made for export or some kind of pre-production sample made before they’d finalised the packaging (since it apparently came straight from the factory). Either way, it’s the first time I’ve seen any version of this thing for sale anywhere.
