Sega Sonic The Hedgehog Jackets

Sonic and Sega jackets aren’t a new thing, as we’ve mentioned a bunch of them many time before. This is the first time however, that I’ve seen a seller with more than one – let alone four.

Sonic the Hedgehog Promo Coca Cola Jacket and Hat

This is a promotional item that, as far as I know, was only given out to Sega employees and given away at promotinal contests back in the Genesis days. This was purchased from a former Sega employee several years ago and has been kept stored in a protective bag since then. This is a heavy, lined jacket marked as size “S”. For size comparison, it fit well on my 130 lb, 5’7″ nephew. Dimensions are as follows: Sleeves (from seam to end of cuff) 22″, Chest (buttoned up, from side to side under armpits) 22″, Waist (without expanding the bottom flexible side pieces) 17″. The jacket has a “Quality Coca Cola clothing” tab, an “Enjoy Coca-Cola” embroidery on the front left chest area, an “Enjoy Cocal-Cola” patch on the right sleeve, and a “Sega” logo patch on the left sleeve. The back of the jacket features an embroidered patch of Sonic with a Coke bottle in his hand. There are four push buttons on the front and two side pockets. All of the patches and embroidery are in awesome condition with no real wear on them. This particular jacket has extremely white sleeves, no internal liner or collar wear, and looks like it was barely worn or displayed. There are some very minor creases on the sleeves (looks like leather but may be leatherette) that indicate minor use. The felt front and collar have virtually no wear. Also included is a matching small baseball cap with a push tab on the back for sizing (I am unsure as to whether this came together as a set, or was just inclusive). Although this is a used collectible, it looks to be in exemplary condition especially for such a rare item. I have not seen another one of these for sale on eBay.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Sega Promotional Jacket

This is a promotional item that, as far as I know, was only given out to Sega employees and given away at promotinal contests back in the Genesis days. This was purchased from a former Sega employee several years ago and has been kept stored in a protective bag since then. This is a heavy, lined jacket with no marked size but similar to a “S”. For size comparison, it fit well on my 130 lb, 5’7″ nephew. Dimensions are as follows: Sleeves (from seam to end of cuff) 19″, Chest (buttoned up, from side to side under armpits) 24″, Waist (without expanding the bottom flexible side pieces) 17″. The jacket has a “Sega” clothing tab, an “S” (for Sonic I suppose, in yellow on blue) embroidery on the front left chest area, a “Sega” logo patch on the right sleeve, and a “Tails” and “Professor Robotnik” patches on the left sleeve. The back of the jacket features an embroidered patch of Sonic with his signature two fingers up and the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 font. There are six push buttons on the front and two side pockets. All of the patches and embroidery are in good condition with very mild wear on them. This particular jacket has white sleeves that have just a bit of dullness in the color, and very light internal liner or collar wear. There are no real flaws on the liner, but just a slight dull from how it would look if it was slightly worn or displayed in an open area. There are some minor creases on the sleeves (looks like leather but may be leatherette) that indicate minor use. The felt front and collar have very minimal fluffiness indicating that it was worn, but not a lot. Although this is a used collectible, it looks to be in exemplary condition especially for such a rare item. I have not seen another one of these for sale on eBay.

Sonic the Hedgehog GOTY 1991 Sega Jacket

This is a heavy, lined jacket marked as size “L” but this is very deceptive as it looks closer to an “S”. For size comparison, it fit well on my 130 lb, 5’7″ nephew. Dimensions are as follows: Sleeves (from seam to end of cuff) 24″, Chest (buttoned up, from side to side under armpits) 23″, Waist (without expanding the bottom flexible side pieces) 18″. The jacket has an “Identity Inc.” clothing tab, an “S SEGA” embroidery on the front left chest area, and a “Sonic The Hedgehog Best Game of the Year 1991” patch on the right sleeve (there are no patches/logos on the left sleeve). The back of the jacket is a solid blue felt. There are seven push buttons on the front and two side pockets. All of the patches and embroidery are in good condition with very mild wear on them. This particular jacket has white sleeves that have just a bit of dullness in the color, and very light internal liner or collar wear.

Fourth jacket is pretty much the same as the third.

Cool items, and I would love to be man enough (and small enough) to rock that Soinc 2 Jacket on a regular basis.

  1. I’m not sure about the jacket, but I can provide a little info on the hat. In the UK, the hat was given away as promotion. You had to collect the labels from bottles of Coca-Cola, and send them away with, I believe, £1.50 to cover postage and you’d receive the hat in the post.

If memory serves, the hat required ten labels from 2 litre bottles of Coke. I seem to vaguely remember the jacket being available to if you collected more, but I can’t be certain about that.

We ordered and received three of the hats. One for myself, one for my sister, and another one which I traded with a kid in school for his collection of SEGA Super Play cards.

There current whereabouts of the two hats that remained in our possession is unknown. I was in my parents attic sorting stuff out a few weeks ago and they weren’t there, so in all probability they are lost, sadly.

Still, yeah, cool item. When I went into school wearing that hat, I felt pretty cool, I can tell you, lol.

  2. I’ve still got my Sonic 2 launch jacket, it was awesome. I’m not sure it was only given to Sega employees as I was able to order it from my favourite games importer in London. I got some Sonic 2 pin badges with it too.

Well, I say I ordered it, my parents ordered it for me as I was about 14 at the time… I loved that jacket, mainly because kids would constantly ask me where I got it from. 😉

  3. Hi! Cool… How much did you get for the jackets?? Thanks, G

  4. Any clue how much the jacket/hat combo went for?

I have that hat somewhere, I’m sure I got it from Segaworld London.
