N64 Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time German Special Edition

It’s been quite some time since I’ve even seen mention of this game.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Special Edition was only released in Germany, back in 1998 when the game was released in Europe. The exact quantity of the Special Edition is unknown and according to the auction, only four are confirmed to be in collectors hands.

What follows is from the auction:

On the back of the Special Edition-box there are two logo’s: one of ‘Cyber Games’ and one Nintendo-logo. It is the Nintendo-logo with the globe behind it, saying it’s an International Licensed Product. The back also contains yellow letters on the side, which says the following, in German:

“The Legend of Zelda – Ocarina of Time (c) 1998 Nintendo Co., Ltd. Lizenz durch Ellipse License Germany. Anderungen in Artikeln und Irrtumer vorbehalten.”

Both the copyright-claim and the Nintendo-logo ensure that this item is 100% official. It’s a 100% officially Nintendo-licensed product.

The box closes with two pieces of velcro, which are still fully intact and in excellent working condition. The Special Edition box has got the German version of the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time inside, as you can see in the pictures. This Nintendo 64-game is the PAL-version and will only play on European and/or Australian Nintendo 64-machines. The Nintendo 64-game is complete and in overall very good condition.

I bought this The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Special Edition about 5 years ago on eBay for $1390. It was in the exact same state as it is right now. I bought the item from a German seller who got the The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Special Edition himself first hand in Berlin.

It’s been the only one I’ve seen on eBay ever since. The price wasn’t bad, especially not considering a Limited Edition like the one from The Legend of Zelda The Minish Cap (which is limited to 300 pieces worldwide) goes for amounts that are almost equal nowadays. The The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Special Edition is far more limited than any other The Legend of Zelda Limited or Special Edition out there, which should make it more appealing value-wise. It’s important to note that I’m sure this item will only increase in value with time, which makes me hate the fact that I need to say goodbye to it now even more.

Thanks Zelos!

  1. Only 4? That seems unusually low. Was this sold at retail? If it was, it can’t really be $1200’s worth of rare, Zelda or not.

  2. This auction is a joke, the edition is not complete, it must have a tee shirt and a pin’s (the same as the swedish ocarina set) , the last one goes for 250 euro complete in mint condition on ebay !!!!!!!

and 4 in the world!!!!! i’m collecting zelda since 12 years and know really more than 10 people having this set, and each time complete .

  3. you’re wrong pit56, this is a complete set. i live in germany and this was sold without the pin and t-shirt. it was sold in an exclusive gameshop in berlin, cyber games, which also sold the pin and t-shirt, but they dit not come with the special edition box. you could buy it seperately.

four known to exist may not be true, but its the sellers opinion.

    • i was a contact for a trade 2 years ago with a big german zelda fan having 2 new complete set originaly buying by him and both set he have comes with the pin’s and the tee shirt as a standart, not on additionnal buy, exactly like the second picture i have posted and as i said without the guide.

  4. after if some of you want to buy a set in bad condition, 4 times more than it really cost without “bonus” it’s not a big deal for me, just that 1400$ with a really bad description (like the 4 only exist …) it’s just a really good joke!!!

  5. The seller can not be blamed for a bad description as he is merely stating how many he knows to exist. If I was the one selling this item, I would’ve said there are only two known to existence, because I do only know two, lol. I think you’re the only person on this planet who knows 10 people who have it. Even when it’s 10 people, that’s RIDICULOUSLY low and still makes the item extremely rare.

I don’t see why you’re so upset about this pit56. Welcome to the Zelda-collector’s world.

  6. yes sure , i only tell that to prevent some of you who can be interest in zelda piece that this one is really overpriced, especialy in this state and with only the gamepack. And i know the zelda collector’w world, and that right it’s being more more more ridiculus since 3 years.

  7. OMG are people just paying all that money JUST for the extra empty box?! if so then thats just a complete WASTE of money!! all i see is the normal version game boxed with a large extra outer box…… they are paying thousands for a box, great…….now thats what I call a joke >:(
