Nintendo DS Pokemon Jirachi Distribution Cart (NFR)

Basically this is a cartridge used for an event which lets you get a special Pokemon. It allows other DSes in the area to download it over WiFi.

From the seller:

Allright, so I happened to snag this up off of ebay during the Super Bowl, where the original person selling it had a very cheap ‘Buy It Now’, and I happened to snatch it up as soon as it was listed, so if you do a search on ebay for it under ‘Completed Listings’, you will see it, that is what’s up for grabs here today. The original person selling this obviously did not know what this was worth. But I am not going to horde this HOLY GRAIL(as of now at least)! I am going to give the general public a chance to own this EXCLUSIVE Pokemon DS cart!

This cart was made exclusively for GAMESTOP stores and only for use early last year at GAMESTOP stores! THIS CART WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC! This cart was used to wirelessly give customers an exclusive Jirachi AND Pichu Pokemon characters if they brought in their Nintendo DS with either Pokemon Pearl, Platinum or Diamond game installed. Each was only available to download for a short time in early 2010, and then the cart was removed from the store demo unit, never to be seen again! There was only 1 of these per store, and then the carts were sent back to Nintendo where they would have been destroyed. Fortunately, this one slipped through the cracks, and we are lucky enough to have it here today so one of you hardcore POKEMON, NINTENDO, OR DEMO and PROMO video game collectors can add this super-rare piece to your collection! THIS IS AN EXCLUSIVE POKEMON NINTENDO DS CART AND QUITE POSSIBLY THE ONLY ONE THAT YOU WILL SEE!

These exclusive characters will work with Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, SoulSilver, HeartGold and the Pokewalker!!! Exclusive characters also unlocks hidden areas AND other Pokemon!!

The front is simply entitled ‘Pokemon’ with ‘Pokemon Distribution Only’ under it and ‘Not For Resale’ under that. It does have the standard ‘Nintendo DS’ written on the top of it. Labeled ‘E for Everyone’. ‘The Pokemon Company’.

The back has a plain white label with ‘Not For Resale’ written on it with ‘GAMECARD DEMO #3364’ Written under it.

I know three guys who have been collecting NFR DS Carts pretty actively and I`m pretty sure neither one has this yet. In fact, from Googling and checking completed eBay auctions for the past year, I can only find one other copy for sure. I can also find references to these being limited to 4200 copies, but can`t confirm that.

I also know the seller has had offers on it at around the $300.00 mark, so it will be interesting to see if anyone hits the $499.99 opening bid.

  1. Except that seller just doomed the store manager of the GameStop that came from. The 4 digit number on the back is the number of the store it went to.

Nintendo does not like it when their carts aren’t returned.

  2. You know, I was thinking that when I was listing it, but hey if they were worried, they probably wouldn’t have listed the item themselves in the first place. Good point though Jason, which also re-iterates my point on how rare this is and will probably be in the future. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I work at a vidya game store and I have a not for resale brain age as well as a professor layton, do you guys think it would be worth selling those on eBay?

      • If they’re Brain Age 2 and Professor Layton and the Curious Village NFR carts, the values are not too high; maybe around $25 for Brain Age 2 and $35 for Layton if both have the barcode stickers on the back.

If you’ve got either the second or third Layton NFR carts though, shoot me a PM. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • hey unfortunately its just the curious village and the first brain age. i only even have them because a former coworker (i used to work at an eb games) who still works there gave them to me when she stopped by my current store to see about trading them. my store never gets anything cool like those carts heh

          • Thanks for letting me know. If it’s any different from the Brain Age I’ve already got I’d still be interested in it.

Please PM me in the GameSniped forum at the same username, kurtori, with a pic of the front/back of the cart! If I don’t have I’d pay via PayPal for it. ๐Ÿ™‚

          • I don’t have the Layton DS demo and would love to add it to my collection of DS demos (50+ US demos). You can PM me on the GS forums as well, if Kurtori doesn’t want/need it.

          • they dont have any stickers on the back the way this pokemon one does (looks like they were removed) so i dunno if that changes your mind at all on wanting either of them

          • Well I’m still interested in it, just because it’s w/o the sticker its worth less. So depending on what you’d want for it will be my deciding factor.

    • No, I’m being serious. I think that due to the limited amount that will be out there, the fact that it is Pokemon, and the obscurity will one day make this a valuable commodity.

      • maybe someday, I’m not sure DS cards will ever reach as much of a fervor status as vintage carts though, especially given how rampant pirate carts are

        • I think you’re right for the most part, but I believe this cart’s immediate rarity is what makes it so collectible. Again, Pokemon game are highly sought after, especially rarities like this! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Sell em’ Megaman!!!

I believe that probably most of these got returned to Nintendo, and maybe a handful slipped through the cracks, if not just this one. I believe it will be very hard to find these in the next couple of years if trends in collecting keep going the way they are now, and that the prices will skyrocket! The bonus on this is it isn’t just some Pokemon game with a ‘Not For Resale’ sticker on it, but an exclusive Pokemon cart with exclusive content! I guess we will have to see. Again, this is staying in my collection if it doesn’t sell at the end of this auction.

    • Ty for posting this , i have one similar distro cart for Hs Ss , distributing Arceus . And i agree most of these carts was sendt back to Nintendos 3 headquarters in us eur jp . Its difficult to set a tag on these carts but they are rare ,and only time will tell if they truely are what pokollectors want to look and spend money on .I really hope that it will, since most of the collecting craze with pokemon is hyped up on wrong terms. I discovered that when i woke up one day in piles of cards that i had to buy to Get the one i wanted (this was before ebay and webstores)

  4. That’s funny. I’m pretty sure that Perfect Dark promo was sold to him from me. ๐Ÿ˜›

I sold it around 2006 I believe. I’ll have to check my records to see what I originally sold it for. Interesting though.
