The Playstation TV

With all the rave of these 3D devices that are somewhat invading our living room, the last thing you want to hear is that there’s a specific tv built just for the Playstation 3. It seems like, it’s the only option Sony’s got for this year’s holiday season. The Playstation Move is a disaster cause to this day, the install base is shrinking due to the fact that Sony or other companies has yet to provide a killer app for it.

First unveiled at E3 of this year during the Sony press conference, it just seems more of gimmicky to me than an actual product that I can use daily (like my regular HDTV). What does it offer other than Uncharted 3 in 3D? By the way, Uncharted 3 in 3D is pretty fucking amazing if you ask me. But what about the other games? Resistance 3? Motorstorm (areyoushittingme)? Still, Sony has manage to bundle up these 2 games free (technically its not free) with the Playstation TV along with 2 3D glasses. According to the Sony Playstation Blog, you’ll need to pre-order this before September 30 of this year to get in on the deal.

This Stereoscopic 3D display will work with the current 3D capable games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, Crysis 2, Gran Turismo 5, and a few others. Unlike Nintendo, at least Sony is releasing it with a small library of games already available and ready to play with the unit. While the world waits for what Nintendo’s cooking up their sleeve to revive the hype of all things 3DS, Sony could possibly make it big with this TV thanks to the killer app called Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

  1. I honestly forgot this existed until you posted about it just now. That’s how much interest and impact the E3 reveal generated for me.

The price is too steep and the screen size is too small. If it could replace my 37″ LCD in my gameroom, then I’d consider it but only at the $500 price.

  2. My hubby’s the PS3 owner in the house and I thought he’d be interested in this for Uncharted 3. The look on his face was priceless. He simply said “A 3D TV? Seriously? That’s Sony’s Christmas Ace In The Hole?”

  3. sony has the same 3 or 4 games each year. i really feel like if they failed with this device, the Ps3 will be stuck in limbo and eventually just die a painful death.

not as painful as the wii though, the fad ended and beat the crap out of it.

  4. Remember the Sony PSX (a Japan-only multimedia device with PS2 hardware)? That failed hard, and I imagine this will too.

  5. I almost want one of these just to keep minty fresh for like 15 years in my closet. Reminds me of the stuff for older systems (such as Vectrex) that can fetch a good amount.

  6. yuppicide:
speaking of minty fresh, odd sony stuff, I’ve got a new in box first edition aibo if you want it to purchase it from me (at this rate, you’d only have to keep it for another 5 years).

  7. I was passing some kids, had to be about 10 or 11 scheming about getting their parents to buy them this tv for them for xmas. I remembered when I was 11, I asked my daddy for a super large Mitsubishi TV (remember those old school big ones?) for my Genesis and I remember being told “There is no way I am buying you a TV that’s better than mine.”

  8. i also will pass on this tv
Its nice to at to my collection and keeping it boxed but the price in europa will be 499 euro and i think thats really fake beacouse usa will only pay 499 $

and then why buying this i already have a 46 inch full hd 3d tv in my game room 🙂
