August 2011 Auctions in Review – Sega

Genesis / Mega Drive

The extremely rare and overpriced Tetris was sold for the 1 Million asking price, but not surprisingly, was then relisted. The Blockbuster World Championship which has been up for awhile appears to have sold as well – legitimately. Also, the recent Pier Solar release is still holding it’s high value.

There`s also two rare and awesome Mega Drive sets that sold. These are my two personal favorites on the list. This Primal Rage set solf for $326.50 and this Phantom 2040 sold for $280.16. Both come in large boxes and the first contains unpunched trading cards and a hat while the second includes a glow in the dark stickers and keychain.

Sega Master System

The SMS testing unit is pretty cool, although the pictures included definitely hurt the selling price. The cost of James Buster Douglas seems to be climbing. It wasn’t too long ago that it would barely break $100.00. There`s a copy at auction right now that seems to be going for even more than the completed listing below.

Sonic sega master system US complete – $499.00
Sega Master System JAMES BUSTER DOUGLAS KNOCKOUT BOXING

POWER STRIKE 2 II (Sega Master) COMPLETE RARE

  1. Never ceases to amaze me how much boxed CDXs go for, whether they’re new or not. Not too long ago (a month or two, perhaps), I saw a boxed one (used, mind you) go for over $500. Kinda makes me feel bad for trading as little as I did for my CDX’s box, paperwork, plastic bags, pack-in games, etc. to make it complete…I traded 6 common to semi-rare NES games for it (he was initially asking for 3, and once I saw what he had, I told him to go grab some more, and he came out with 6 in total, probably $50 worth of games overall o_O ).

  2. I knew there was something not right about that Tetris Cart. It doesn’t seem legit to me.

On an unrelated note, I picked up 4 Genesis Games still in their shrink wrap for a dollar a piece: “Ape Spit, California Games, Kid Chameleon and David Robinson”. No they are not for sale.

  3. I’m doing a monthly recap, it’s good to remention some things and note their closing prices, as well as draw attention to some things we missed. It will be a regular feature, but you’ll still get lots of live stuff, just not the past two days.

As for buying a complete Genesis for $50, I wouldn’t. Most boxed ones only fetch $25 or so.

    mb7241 – Yeah, CDX’s are crazy.

kaleb/Maikis – I need to do another post on that Tetris cart, will try this week. Also, nice grab on the Genny games.

  4. That Master System NTSC Sonic was a fake.
The seller used the upc from Spiderman.

Some poor bastard paid $500 for a $1 game.
