Original Nintendo NES Controller Chair

2013 is shaping up to be a good year. Tons of rarities and oddities have popped up three weeks in and my watch list is swamped. Today we have one of the infamous Nintendo Controller Chairs.

The seller claims that this is one of five working prototypes. That may or may not be true. There are several makes and models of these, and all are pretty rare. Last one I know that popped up was in 2010, but it’s not something I keep an eye out for. The Genesis versions seem to show up up much more often.

Here’s a in use video of a similar model.

  1. I’m pretty sure this is rarer than the hot seat. It appears to track movement from the bottom of the seat. The hot seat tracks movement inside the joystick, so you can attach it to any movable seat and it will work. Seems to be a better build, but the hot seat goes for a lot cheaper.

  2. Yeah NOT a Hot Seat.

I have a different model than this; still in the box with manual. I actually owned 2 and sold one on Ebay for $300-500 a couple years ago (perhaps I am the 2010 one you speak of).

I am pretty certain this is NOT a prototype; but perhaps one of few that were produced for that company as these were pricey and not big sellers. Most likely the seller confusing ‘prototype’ with Floor Samples from a CES show.

  3. The guy that thinks this is a Hot Seat doesn’t know what he’s talking about. They’re clearly different. I wish new collectors would do some research before speaking up.

  4. Haha, I got that NES ROB sticker book a long time ago at a garage sale when I was a kid. Not sure if I want to sell it…
