Sega Action Chair

The Sega Action Chair is not something you see every day. This rare chair is actually a controller. Lean backward or forward to go down and up and lean left or right and it goes (obviously) left or right. Two handles contain the buttons for start, select, A and B.

Basically, it’s a chair mounted on a controller. This makes it possible to play any game with it, though it is more appropriate for games like After Burner II, Space Harrier II, Super Thunder Blade, Hang on, Road Rash, Super Monaco GP, etc. Super Monaco, Hang On, Space Harrier 2 and Super Thunder Blade are actually listed as recommended titles.

How rare is this thing? Let’s put it this way, it’s not even on Wikipedia. There’s only like one page you can find when Googling with actual pics, and the rest are just a few forum or blog posts.

Despite this, it’s probably not an expensive item. The thing is just too damn heavy and cumbersome to have many people bidding on it.

This is the original and I am the only owner. Bought it for my kids when they were young. It all worked a few years ago before they moved out. Now I have no games to test it with but it was working fine when we last played, so I see no reason for it not to be fully functional.

The seat is leather looking, but I think its probably vinyl and in fantastic condition. I have seen others with just the plastic moulded chair. There is slight rust around the metal frame due to sitting in the damp basement. Maybe some rust remover and paint will do it justice.

Of course, I don’t have the original box but it’s probably too big to ship anyway for a decent price. Anyone nearby can get a nice piece if you can pick it up. I’ll list it as pick up only. If you can’t, please email me with offers or suggestions and maybe we can work a deal.
