Collection of Video Game Receipts

Hello, everyone, and thanks for taking the time to check out my auction! You’re looking at what is literally a piece of video game history, at least in the life of this particular lifelong video game nerd – contained within this box is every single receipt for my video game store purchases from May 7th, 2001 to June 27th, 2009. I haven’t actually counted the receipts, but I estimate them to number somewhere around 700-800 total, with the vast majority being from Game Crazy and GameStop/Electronics Boutique. Perhaps you’re wondering, and rightly so, HOW this collection came into being and, equally important, WHY I would think to list such a collection here on the good ol’ worldwide marketplace? Well, let me do a bit of explaining…

I am, I admit, a consummate gaming nerd, and I’ve collected video games since I was very young; however, in 2001 when I was in my late teens I discovered eBay, and I began actively purchasing games specifically for resale here, as well as occasionally selling off pieces of my personal collection. It was at this time, when I realized that most of the games I bought would not remain in my possession for long, that I decided to begin collecting my receipts as a sort of archive of awesomeness which I could peruse at any time. I know that we’re somewhat few and far between, but you real gaming nerds out there will understand what I mean – for instance, did you know that back in December of 2001, Game Crazy was selling copies of Final Fantasy VII for only $14.99? Apparently I bought a copy, along with Final Fantasy VIII. I also bought Mega Man 6, The Adventures of Lolo 2, Pac-Man, and Milon’s Secret Castle for the NES, and at that time Game Crazy was offering their “Three for $10” sale on “classic” games, so I got those four games for only $10.00. Oh, and it seems that I was SOMEHOW able to pick up a copy of Ogre Battle for the SNES for only $5.00 on May 7th, 2005! You’ll also be in possession of what is possibly the longest GameStop receipt IN EXISTENCE, dated October 5th, 2007, from a trade I made shortly after I purchased a local pawn shop’s entire video game inventory during their “Going Out of Business” sale. This collection of receipts is truly a testament to gaming, and it is my hope that it ends up in the hands of someone who appreciates its unique value. (Not that that’s much of a stretch, since I doubt that anyone else would even consider bidding on it!) It may sound crazy, but I have to admit that selling this is more difficult than it was to sell my collection of 700+ NES games several years ago, or selling my collection of complete Super Nintendo games… With those, I know that I have at least the possibility of re-collecting them in the coming years, but this little (well, maybe not so little) box of receipts is something which is truly one-of-a-kind. I’m selling it only because money for tuition is once again very tight, and although I know it’s a long shot, I’m sincerely hoping that there might be one or two of you other eBayers out there who would be interested in such a quirky, unusual, and singularly nerdy bit of video game memorabilia! Of course, you are welcome to ask any questions you might have, and I’ll be sure to get back to you ASAP.
