Softporn Adventure for the Apple II

This game has to be one of the very few, if not the only game to have the word “porn” in the title. It was released back in 1981 for the Apple II computer and was published by On-Line Systems. The premise revolves around getting a bunch of items for several beautiful women in hopes of winning their affection. This very game would later inspire the Leisure Suit Larry series of adult oriented games.

The game would later be ported to MS-DOS and the PC in the early 90’s and was also added into the 1987 release of Leisure Suit Larry’s Greatest Hits & Misses collection. The version itself held true to it’s original form unlike most remakes these days.

One interesting bit of history involves the games cover. The first girl on the left was a shipping clerk at On-Line Systems and the waiter/butler was an actual waiter at a restaurant. Pretty fly job to serve three women in a hot tub. When the game was ported to PC back in 1991, it had a different cover.

The second girl on the left is the wife of Bob Davis creator of another Sierra classic, Ulysses and the Golden Fleece. The girl on the far right was a woman named Roberta Williams. She was very instrumental to Sierra’s success back in the 80’s and early 90’s. One of her notable works was a title called Phantasmagoria which stirred a bunch of controversy back then. Phantasmagoria not only featured gore and violence, but it also had a rape scene – it was a game ahead of it’s time really. The game was banned in Australia and a few retailers, such as CompUSA in the U.S., refused to carry the title due it’s graphic nature.

Anyways, the Softporn Adventure at auction ends in less than a day at $290 so far with 13 bids. The seller also has many more Apple II games.

Update: The game sold for $810.
