Wii Emulation

I’m pretty sure this is common knowledge, but someone I missed out on it. The Wii is pretty well emulated on PC and has been for quite sometime. Most games run perfectly or with minor bugs and are even playable at HD quality, with 720p and more. Hell, you can even use your Wiimote and Nunchuck.

It’s all thanks to Dolphin, an open-source Nintendo GameCube, Wii, and Triforce (arcade board) emulator. It is the first emulator to successfully run commercial GameCube games as well. The name itself comes from the Nintendo Dolphin, the original codename for the GameCube.

I know some people consider emulation a hot button topic, especially in collector communities, but I just thought it was pretty crazy how well it has progressed. Long term though, emulation is needed for sure. There’s a lot more chance of digital copies surviving 100 years from now.

I wonder if at some point our kids will discover Wii ROMS and play games from their childhood, leading then into physical collecting.
