NBA Elite 11 is a basketball game released by EA first for Apple iOS. It is the first installment in the NBA Elite series, succeeding the NBA Live series.
A release of the game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 was scheduled for October 5, 2010, but was delayed until March 31, 2011 due to “concerns about gameplay polish”. The devs aimed to completely change the game’s control system, but were pressed for time with an eighteen month development cycle. A demo was released while the game was being finalized. The demo was plagued with glitches that were much publicized, including one involving a player freezing in the middle of the court, stuck in a T-pose (also called the crucifixion pose). Developers were aware of an animation bug, but intended to fix it before release. After internal review of the game, EA found the product to be unsatisfactory and canceled the game. The cancellation for these versions was officially announced on November 2, 2010 and development of the franchise was moved from EA’s Black Box studio to its Florida-based Tiburon studio. EA then decided to release free DLC for NBA Live 10, including roster updates for the 2010–11 NBA season.
When I first wrote about this in Febuary, there had been been around fifteen sold in the last 90 days on eBay. The cheapest was a loose one at $150.00, and the most expensive was sealed at $400.00. Most had sold for $300.00 and up and the majority have been brand new.
I thought it would be pretty interesting to see how many of those came out of the woodwork. My theory was that if the numbers stay this low, then I would definitely see them retaining their value in the short term and going up significantly in value over time.
As it stand now, there has been less than 50 of these sold on eBay to date. My actual count is roughly 30. The majority have sold in the $300.00 – $500.00 range, with one topping the scale at $700.00.
