Game On – An Online Gaming Challenge

There’s more to online gaming than Facebook and Zynga. There are sites all over the internet delivering a huge variety of game genres.  Can you take the challenge to try each genre out in the space of a day? Perhaps you might find something you’ll love!

Action

In an assault course style game-a-thon, the obvious choice is to open with an actual assault course game! Miniclip has a few to choose from in the Flash genre, so get going. Who dares to wins The obvious choice for action games is always the hugely successful COD series (for consoles), but watch out for annoying swearing teenagers when playing online.

Horror

Steam has some great horror games, such as the Resident Evil series. For something a little less zombie, blood and guts and a little more creepy, Limbo is a great little indie game which is black and white, taxing to play and really makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

Indie

Speaking of indie games, Swapper is a great new release. Holder of numerous awards and accolades, Swapper is an atmospheric puzzle platformer set in the furthest reaches of space. Players wield an experimental device able to clone the user and swap control between the clones.

Casino

Everyone likes a bit of a flutter, and Intertops Online Casino provides a great gaming experience with their fun and engaging pokies and roulette opportunities to mobile or PC gamers.

Driving

Everyone loves a good driving game, and there are so many to choose from, including the Gran Turismo series. For something for those players who are a little less practised at driving games, there are subversions of the genre with games that tally up how much damage you can do in horrific accidents and crashes such as the Burnout series.

Platform

The platformer was probably most people’s original introduction to the world of gaming, and classics such as Mario and Sonic games are available online via emulators. For a more up to date platformer, Trine offers a mix of characters with beautiful graphics and a great challenge.

MMO

The massive multiplayer online role playing game (what a mouthful!) is a genre lauded as the best thing since sliced bread in the world of games. Famous ones like World of Warcraft require an expensive monthly subscription. There are a number of free ones, including Second Life and League of Legends which are replacing the popular WoW.

So there you have it. An assault course of games. Go forth and play!
