Pioneer CLD-A100 LaserActive with NEC & Sega Modules

The Pioneer LaserActive was a short-lived Laserdisc-based game console released by Pioneer in 1993. In addition to LaserActive games, separately sold add-on modules (referred to as “PAC” by Pioneer) expanded the hardware to allow the playing Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis and PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 game cartridges and HuCards and CDs. The system has some rarity now, partially due to the high prices it commanded origionally. The main console for example was priced at $970.00 USD.

The hardware itself is not too hard to find if you’re patient, but you don’t often see a nice auction like this that includes both the NEC and Sega modules.

Game for the system will kill you though. There’s some extreme rarities like Blue Chicago Blues US and others that will be very hard to find like Melon Brains and Time Gal. Even common games like Pyramid Patrol don’t get listed all that often, and when they do they usually end up a higher priced BINS when at auction it would end for around $25.00.

Auction Here – For price refrence, a similar auction with both modules ended recently for $700.00.
