We retro hunters are a savvy bunch. We know when particular games are rare or uncommon, they also tend to be expensive. While higher prices are often associated with rare games, there are hard to find games out there that are actually reasonably priced. Some relatively uncommon (and dare I say rare) cheap SNES games actually exist on the market if you’re willing to dig a bit.
Of course, game prices can fluctuate (decreasing or increasing) over time. This is often the case for Super Nintendo Entertainment System games.
Today, we are going to share a list of relatively cheap NES games (or at least semi-affordable) that are also fairly rare or uncommon. We will also list links so you know where to buy SNES games that interest you.
Cheap SNES games that are ALSO rare/uncommon:
- Pieces – Rarity Guide gives this SNES game a rarity score of 77%. Some sellers try to gouge prices. If you hunt around on Ebay you may be able to snag a loose copy of this game for around $20. Currently, listings tend to go for $37.00 and up. If you keep looking, you should eventually snag a copy for somewhere between $20 – $30.
- Lufia & the Fortress of Doom – This SNES game has a rarity score of 76%. Despite the relative rarity of the title, the average price for a loose copy tends to remain around the $30 – $40 mark. There is currently an Ebay listing for this game that has a starting bid of just $1.04 (03-26-17). If you are interested in owning this somewhat uncommon game, you may want to hurry up and bid on that listing.
- Captain Novolin – This game was also given a rarity rating around 76%. The average list price for a loose copy of Captain Novolin seems to have shot up around $60. But, if you wait it out, you should be able to find a copy around $40 – $50. Right now, this game seems to be in higher demand and the prices reflect that. Don’t forget to negotiate with sellers and be willing to ‘walk away’ if you aren’t comfortable with a transaction.
- Zero: The Kamikaze Squirrel – This game is typically a staple for frugal SNES collectors. Zero currently has a rarity score of 74%. Unfortunately, like Captain Novolin, prices have shot up around $100. There is a single listing with 6 bids around $6.50 (03-31-17). Demand for this game has evidently increased. It seems likely that this game will not drop back down in price in the near future, but it doesn’t hurt to keep an eye on it. Trends always change (for better or worse) eventually!
- Super Mario World – This seems to be one of the few SNES games that is both uncommon and still sold at low prices (most likely due to being a pack-in with the NTSC console). Somehow, Super Mario World has a rarity score of 72% (which is surprising since it was packed in with the console). Don’t pay more than $20 for a loose copy at this moment (03-31-17). Should be even cheaper at a thrift store. Honestly, I’m not sure how this game is even considered rare…
- Ren & Stimpy: Fire Dogs – This game has a rarity score of 72% and an average loose price around $30 (though you should be able to pick up a copy around the $20 – $25 range). There are several listings for empty Ren & Stimpy: Fire Dogs cases as well. So, if you already own a copy and need to complete a collection…
- Operation Europe: Path To Victory – Hands down one the cheapest uncommon SNES games on the internet. RG gives Operation Europe a rarity score over 70%. It has an average loose list price of $12. One seller has a copy listed around $9.99 (which is criminally low for eBay). Want it cheaper? Head to your closest thrift store or yard sale.
- Looney Tunes B-Ball – Looney Tunes was given a rarity score of 72%, and an average loose price around $20. You can find a few loose copies of the game floating around on Ebay. Currently, the lowest list price is $25 (03-26-17). Keep negotiating those prices, guys!
