As video games become more and more popular, most of our classic favorites are being turned into household items one by one. From bricks, to door mats, even ice cube trays, who knows what they’ll do next?
Today’s featured household product comes from Etsy.com through the seller l33tMOTIF. He’s created these amazing looking cutting boards with video game motifs from Zelda’s Triforce Logo, to Pac-Man & Blinky, to Space Invaders. These works of art will set you back $125.. EACH! It’s too bad Father’s Day or Mother’s Day is over, but hey there’s always Christmas or a Birthday. He’s also got some other stuff like coasters and a necklace (probably the least expensive in the bunch).
The board is made of walnut and hard-maple, put together with FDA approved, water-proof glue, and treated with a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax. This is the same cutting board that I use, and it makes me smile pretty much every time I get to cut on it.
End-grain cutting boards like this one are very durable and will not dull your knife edges like some other types of cutting boards might. Also, while some people worry that wooden cutting boards are not as safe from bacteria as glass or plastic, there have been studies done that actually show that wooden boards have antibacterial properties (seriously…ask The Internets). I don’t know if those studies are 100% accurate, but I do know that people have been using wooden cutting boards a lot longer than plastic, and have not all died of food-borne illness, so I figure it’s probably ok (though I won’t hold it against you if you decided to cut poultry on a separate board).
