Nintendo DSi XL Demo Video Cartridge (NFR)

It’s quite an exciting week for Nintendo, eh? The Nintendo 3DS is coming in just a 48 hours. The main focus of attention will be on that system and very few triple A titles are being released to the good old DS platform. In fact, there’s a slew of shovelware titles. Not surprising, but also not so good either..

With that in mind, it’s also a great time to start collecting for the DS. In it’s mountains of shovelware, there are a few games that stands out though it’s still a little early to say, I think it’s a great opportunity to start doing some research. I’ve compiled a few of them in hope to writing (one day at least) a list of rare/sought after titles located on our board (check it out!).

I did mention a pretty rare DS cartridge back in November. You may remember The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess video demo given away at E3 2005. There is a similar video cartridge released for the DSi XL to promote a few other Nintendo products listed on ebay right now. Knowing that this cartridge contains a few recent titles, I can imagine that there may be a few of them out there still in the possession of retailers (stores). According to the desciption:

This demo plays non-interactive video, somewhat similar to the Twilight Princess DS video cartridge. What’s interesting is that the cartridge boots straight to the video (no loading screen) and when you try to play it in DS Lite, you get a warning screen as seen below. The video shows off a number of high-profile 1st- and 3rd- party titles for the system:

  • New Super Mario Bros.
  • Flipnote Studio (cute animated drawings of Zelda and Luigi shown)
  • Zelda Spirit Tracks
  • Brain Age Express
  • Glory of Heracles
  • Wario Ware DIY
  • Mario Kart DS
  • America’s Test Kitchen
  • Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver
  • Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story
  • Scribblenauts
  • Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (cool 4-panel and 16-panel video effects)

This is the only listing for this specific cartridge on eBay right now. I don’t think there will be another one for quite awhile.

The same seller has a rare Final Fantasy VIII Coca Cola MiniDisc Player promo prize. I don’t think this listing will last since there are alot of Final Fantasy collector’s out there.

This item was given as a one-time prize for those who entered a Coca-Cola sweepstakes contest in Japan in 1999. This item was never available to buy and will not be produced again.
