Pong Special – Part ONE!

First, a cool auction.
Anyone knows that the Magnavox Odyssey is considered to be the first home video game system that you could actually buy in shops. They made different runs of this system. The first one is from 1972.
Now, how much would you pay for a new Odyssey?

ODYSSEY ITL 200 MAGNOVOX 1972 NEW

To be honest, it’s missing the outside cardboard shipping box.
Anyway, if you’re missing some parts of your Odyssey or Odyssey games, this seller has many cheap spare parts that you might be intereted in.

I’d like to start this Pong-Special saga with an Italian system. Created in Italy (no Hong Kong or Taiwan) by Zanussi-Seleco, it’s big and goes perfectly with your TV from ’70s.
As you may learn in the wonderful site www.pong-story.com, Zanussi released 2 game systems with different revisions, and a (really rare) gun. Seleco is another brand name for Zanussi. Their project has been exported to Germany by Universum. You’ll find Universum systems with the same case.

PING-O-TRONIC SELECO

The manual reads: “ping-o-tronic, il giocosport del 2000
A quick translation in english: “ping-o-tronic, the sportgame of year 2000“. “Giocosport” is not an Italian word but a neologism.
The speaker is built in (top left corner, “TOK TOK” sound) and you may choose 3 speeds for the ball, 2 player, 1 player (you against a wall), no players (wall against wall…). You can change the size of your raquet with the two black and red knobs.
This system came earlier than the great pong-boom that crossed Europe during 1977. High quality components from a brand that was very well known for household-electrics.
In 1990 a friend of mine sold me one Ping-O-Tronic for 10,000 Lire (like 10 euros). After playing for some days, we decided to destroy it, smash it completely.
After that thay, I’ve got a mission: collect every Zanussi-Seleco system. I must pay for my sins.

PS the seller has also a REEL pong system. REEL (or ReEl or Re-El) is Reggiana Elettronica, another Italian producer, but I’ll talk about it another day.

See you son!
