Bronze Mario Award Statue by R.S Owens

Another post, another trophy. What are the odds? Just like the last one, this solid bronze trophy of Mario has an interesting story behind it. This trophy in particular was given out at a Nintendo award gala in 1996, presumably for an employee contest themed around Killer Instinct (remember, this is all based on info that’s online. If you were there and know the full story, please tell us!). The most intriguing thing about this trophy (the seller claims two versions exist, this one being rarer) is that it was designed by Chicago company R.S. Owens – famous for designing the iconic Academy Award trophy, the Oscar. The trophy itself is in excellent shape – take to it with a polish kit if you’d like, but be aware that many collectors of bronze prefer the original patina. Just ensure to stop any oxidation from spreading.
